About Liz White

I grew up in Norfolk, VA, on a creek where I spent most of my time when not playing sports. I attended East Carolina and graduated from Florida State. I completed my master’s at ECU while studying sports medicine. I was certified as an athletic trainer in 1976, one of a handful of women in the U.S. to have achieved that status. I rose to the position of Assistant Director of the Sports Medicine Division helping to build it into a nationally known curriculum and program.

I’ve spent most of my career in service of others. First while at ECU working with athletes and volunteering with the American Heart Association and the Red Cross Pitt County Chapter. Later I joined the American Red Cross National Headquarters staff in Health & Safety Services and then in Disaster Services. There I gained experience in the Disaster Emergency Operations Center during large-scale storms and other major events and was on the ground for the response to the 9/11 Pentagon Disaster. I retired from the Association of American Medical Colleges where I played a major role in a national campaign that has and will impact medical education and the practice of medicine for years to come. Of my many accomplishments, my most rewarding role is working for the last 17 years to help rescue unwanted bulldogs with On the Rebound Bulldog Rescue, a 501(c)3 all-volunteer foundation of which I’m now President.

Much of my career has been in leadership positions working with teams to serve others or to solve complex problems. I’m fortunate to have been able to make positive changes to the communities of which I’ve been a part, helping to improve how people, systems, and tasks function to achieve better outcomes.

I’m blessed to have traveled full circle to recover my youth once again living on the water here in Oak Island. Like so many of you, I care deeply about our community and want it to thrive. To serve as your mayor will be a privilege.
